Notley Partners with DivInc to Empower Austin’s Entrepreneurial Women and People of Color

Notley is thrilled to announce our partnership with DivInc, an accelerator program for entrepreneurial women and people of color. Notley has made a significant philanthropic investment in DivInc, enabling sustainability and empowering the organization to offer its programing to more diverse founders in Austin.

DivInc will be moving their offices and accelerator program to Relay Coworking at Notley’s Center for Social Innovation (CSI). Located in East Austin, the CSI is a campus designed for entrepreneurial individuals and organizations focused on impact.

To enable DivInc to empower more founders in Austin, the Notley team will provide finance, operations, marketing and fundraising support. In addition, two leaders from Notley will join the DivInc Board: Dan Graham as a Board Director and Julie Oliver as a Board Observer. DivInc will remain an independent 501(c)3 organization.

DivInc’s mission to accelerate diverse entrepreneurs aligns closely with Notley’s focus on enabling innovation and social impact in Austin. There is a clear synergy between DivInc, Women@Austin and Student INC. Likewise, multiple organizations at the CSI are focused on diversity and inclusion in technology and entrepreneurship, including Latinitas, College Forward and Huston-Tillotson.

While startups have the power to create jobs and drive economic growth, the playing field is not level. Women and people of color face significant, persistent barriers to building successful ventures, especially in technology.

For example, of the more than 6 million companies owned by African Americans and Hispanics, more than 90% are sole proprietors. Meanwhile, only 78% of non-minority owned companies are sole proprietors.

If African American and Hispanic entrepreneurs were to achieve parity by building scalable, high growth businesses, it is estimated they would generate 5.9M new jobs and $871B in revenue for the US economy. By accelerating companies founded by women and people of color, DivInc and Notley aim to make an impact in Austin and across the country.

Join Us at Champions of Change

On Friday, March 1, DivInc is hosting the inaugural Champions of Change awards at Austin’s City Hall. This special event recognizes local leaders who hold diversity as a core value and strive to make Austin a truly inclusive community.

A selection committee, made up of diverse leaders and influencers in Austin, have nominated finalists in seven categories.

DivInc is an accelerator program for women and people of color. We equip diverse entrepreneurs with strategies critical to building and growing exceptional technology businesses. DivInc’s intensive 12-week curriculum empowers entrepreneurs to imagine, plan, and execute venture opportunities of the highest caliber.

By building successful high-growth companies, DivInc aims to disproportionately influence the economic, political and social development of communities nationwide. Together, DivInc’s alumni and advisor network of founders, funders, and executives are working to change the face of entrepreneurship, one venture at a time.

Since 2016, four cohorts of entrepreneurs have graduated from DivInc. Applications for the the 2019 cohort will open in April.
