Preserving East Austin's Rich History

Previously home to Charles B. Moreland, a wholesale and retail dealer in wallpaper, paints, and painters’ supplies, the 1301 East Cesar Chavez house is now the temporary office place for Notley. Notley, the catalyst for social innovation on a mission to bring affordable commercial real estate to Austin’s impact organizations, renovated the property to restore its Victorian-style beauty. Adding new color and 21st century appliances, the space still highlights the soaring 11-foot ceilings finished with reclaimed wood and Victorian-style moldings. When visiting the house, you truly feel as if you're stepping back in time, as it is one of the most visually impressive and architecturally intact Victorian homes in East Austin. “Real estate is for the social good of the community,” Notley says, “ and because of this, it’s even more important to preserve the history of this area.”
