Enough Already. Let's Collaborate

I was having lunch last week with my good friend and founder of Moonshots Capital, Craig Cummings, discussing the veteran entrepreneurial ecosystem and the need for more collaboration and cohesiveness. There are a growing number of these groups, mostly because there is a large market and demand for them: Moonshots, Bunker Labs, Patriot Boot Camp, Vetted, Vets in Tech, and many more. These groups are all vying for funding, mentors, space, and resources.

Chatting with contacts at USAA, who funds most of these groups, you get the clear message that a more consolidated and collaborative approach would be welcomed, would unlock more funding and would likely yield better results.

So what’s the hold up? Why hasn’t this happened yet? I actually see this challenge in a range of issue areas, especially in the nonprofit space ranging from the arts to literacy groups.

I don’t know exactly how to do this but I do know that you need:

  • A STRONG leader or two to step up and want to see this happen

  • A strong and willing number of group EDs and leaders to be open to the idea

  • Funders lined up behind the effort to provide the incentive

  • Ideally a collaborative single space to collaborate and share ideas

Where do you see the opportunities for more collaboration?
